Northern Grid and other members of the National Education Network have negotiated a special licence for British Pathé. If you are a school in Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, North Tyneside, Redcar and Cleveland, South Tyneside or Stockton you can access the full British Pathé archive. This includes 3,500 hours of film and 12,000,000 stills and cover 75 years of history from 1896 until 1970. There are lots of subjects including: sports, games, food, and drink, science and technology, humour, transport, trade and Industry, social issues, religion, lifestyle and culture, politics, news, education and schools, animals and the living world.

The high-resolution versions of the films and stills can be accessed without charge for students and teachers. They can be used as they are or edited by teachers and pupils. The British Pathé website now provides access to streamed versions of the newsreels over the Internet with only a small off-centre watermark. You can share the resources within the school and with other educational establishments within Northern Grid. You can upload the clips or work you’ve produced to a learning platform or VLE. The only thing you can’t  do is publish the outside of the education network, for example they can’t be published on the Internet.
